Root Canal Treatment

You may hear dentists saying you need to have “endodontic treatment” done. All it means is that in order to save your tooth that has been badly damaged or has had an injury you need to have root canal treatment.

Infection and inflammation of the pulp can be caused by:

  • Trauma
  • Gum Disease
  • Breakdown of a filling or crown
  • A very deep cavity
  • Extensive dental treatment to the tooth

Sign and Symptoms:

  • Pain
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Tooth discolouration
  • Swelling or soreness in the gums
  • Abscess

If any of these signs are present then the only way to save your tooth is to have the Root Canal Treatment done. All the root canals in your affected tooth need to be treated. Molars usually have three to four root canals, premolars usually have one or two root canals and your incisors (front teeth) also can have one or two root canals.

Should you choose not to have root canal treatment done then the tooth needs to be removed. You would then need to consider having an implant or bridge.
